Rabbi Search Committee - What's happening?
Explaination of the process:
So everyone will better understand the process of hiring a rabbi, here are the initial steps that must be taken:
A letter stating that we are beginning our search for a full-time conservative rabbi is sent the Rabbinical Assembly in New York. They are the group that facilitates the whole process. Interested rabbis send their resumes to the assembly as we send our questionnaire to the assembly. In a sense, it is like the matchmakers of the rabbinic world.
Once our letter is received, the assembly sends us several forms including the questionnaire to be filled out and returned back to the assembly.
The peak time for a rabbi to look for a congregation is January – April. This means we need to complete our paperwork by the end of November. Once the assembly receives our questionnaire and form, our name will be put on the listserv in December indicating that we are looking.
This is just the beginning of the rabbi search but as a committee we are committed to keeping everyone in the loop. We will update this section as we progress through the process.
The questionnaire is the synagogue's resume. There are questions regarding every aspect of our community. Since we are a small community and many, many members facilitate events, activities, services, etc., the rabbi search committee will be asking for your help in answering some of the questions.
Rabbi Research Committee Final Report
Congregation Sha'are Shalom's Rabbi Research Committee (RRC) was formed in the summer of 2006 as a preliminary step in furtherance of our congregation's goal of hiring our first full-time rabbi. During the past year, our committee has conducted surveys, moderated focus groups and had discussions with many individual congregants to ascertain their opinions on issues related to our congregation itself and their hopes regarding our first full-time rabbi. A final report reflecting our findings and general recommendations is now available for review, as well as the results of the survey.
